These terms are the agreement between you and CodeCraft Innovations B.V. for your use of nitnoi. Using the app means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use nitnoi.

What nitnoi is

nitnoi is a messaging app for two people who do not share a language. It translates what each of you writes into the other's language, transcribes and translates voice notes, can put live captions on a call, and can point out where a phrase is ambiguous and ask the question that clears it up. It also has a Decoder, where you can paste text from somewhere else and have it explained.

When the two of you are in the same room, nitnoi can interpret out loud between you, and it can do the same with someone who does not use nitnoi at all: you lay the phone on the table, their half of the screen tells them in their own language what is happening, and it translates for the two of you until either of you ends it. Our privacy notice says what is processed and what is kept.

Most conversations in nitnoi are between two people. You can also talk in a group of up to 32 people, and post on Nearby for people close by to see, as our privacy notice describes. Your conversation with nitnoi itself, the app's AI, is described in the next section.

Offline Decode translates text and, where supported, recognizes speech on your phone. Offline Decode on Android uses Google ML Kit and displays attribution to Google Translate. Machine translations can be inaccurate. See the Google Cloud Translation information and ML Kit translation usage guidelines.

nitnoi, the AI in the app

nitnoi is an AI companion, not a person, for the language side of talking with someone: it answers questions about the app, the other person's language and its culture, and shows you how something you would like to say reads in that language. What it writes is generated by AI. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it is no substitute for a professional: do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions, and check anything that matters before you act on it or send it to anyone.

nitnoi is not a counsellor, a doctor or an emergency service. If what you write to it suggests you might harm yourself, it answers with care and with crisis lines instead of carrying on the conversation; if you are in danger, call your local emergency number. It remembers short things you tell it, for you alone, until you delete them, clear its chat or delete your account, and our privacy notice says exactly what it keeps and for how long. You can report any of its replies with "Report this reply" in the reply's menu. nitnoi answers a limited number of messages a day, and that number can change.

AI companions may not be suitable for some minors. Do not use nitnoi to produce anything these terms forbid, or try to make it pretend to be a person or something it is not.

Your account

You sign in with your phone number and a one time code sent to it by SMS. That number is your account. One number is one account.

Keep your device and your number secure. Anyone who can receive your SMS can sign in as you. Tell us at [email protected] if you lose control of your number, and sign out on any device you no longer trust.

You must be at least 13 to use nitnoi. If the country where you live sets a higher age for using online services on your own, you must be at least that age. If you are under the age of majority where you live (20 in Thailand), a parent or guardian must read and agree to these terms with you, and you need their agreement before you buy anything in nitnoi. Studio, the part of nitnoi that edits photos with AI, is only for people 18 or older. Do not sign up with a phone number that is not yours.

Plans and payment

nitnoi has a free plan and a paid plan, and the free plan is not time limited. Every plan belongs to one person: whatever is translated for you counts on your plan, and whatever is translated for the other person counts on theirs. On the free plan, 50 messages a day are translated for you and 5 voice or video messages a day are transcribed and translated for you, counted across all your conversations together — and a voice or video message is only translated when you have automatic translation on or you ask for it. Your account carries 20 minutes of live translation a month, on calls, in Together and talking face to face, charged to whoever starts it. The decoder gives you 20 reads a day, and readings, tone and reply ideas 10 a day. There is no limit on how many conversations you keep. Plus takes the daily limits off for you, raises live translation to 120 minutes a month and lets you unsend a message. Plus for both of you is the same plan with a second seat you give to one person you have a conversation with; they keep it for as long as you keep the plan, and you can give it to somebody else once a week.

Sending is never limited. Only translating is counted, so a conversation never stops: when a day's translations are used up your messages still arrive, in the language they were written in, and the next day starts again.

Getting a translation right is never something you pay for: warnings, the questions that clear up an ambiguous phrase, and the words you have taught us work on every plan.

No plan is sold for automated use. We keep ceilings far above anything two people talking would reach, so that a script cannot run up a bill in your name; you will not meet them by using nitnoi the way it is meant to be used.

Prices and what each plan includes are shown in the app before you pay.

Your first 14 days

For the first 14 days after you sign up, your account has everything in Plus, free. It is not a subscription and not a trial: nothing is bought, nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. When the 14 days are over your account carries on with the free plan by itself. If you buy a plan during those days, it starts, and is paid for, from the day you buy it, not from the end of the free days. The free days are given once per person: until 12 months after they end, an account deleted and made again with the same phone number, or the same LINE account, gets only what was left of them, not a new 14 days.

Paying by card

A card subscription renews every month on its own until you turn renewal off. Turning renewal off keeps everything you have paid for until the end of the month you are in, and then stops. Payments are taken by Stripe.

Paying by PromptPay

PromptPay buys one month, paid once. It does not renew on its own. When the month ends, your access returns to the free plan until you buy another month.

Free trials

Where a free trial is offered, it is available on card payment only, because a trial needs a subscription to continue onto and a single PromptPay month has nothing to continue onto. A trial becomes a paid month automatically unless you turn renewal off before it ends. One free trial per phone number.

Purchases inside an app store

If you buy a plan through Apple or Google, that purchase is governed by the store's own rules, including its rules on refunds and cancellation, and it is managed in the store rather than by us.

Refunds

A month that has started is not refundable, except where the law where you live says otherwise, or where we have charged you in error. If something has gone wrong, write to [email protected] and we will look at it.

Using nitnoi fairly

Do not use nitnoi to:

• break the law, or help someone else break it;
• harass, threaten, stalk or impersonate anyone, or to send someone content they have told you they do not want;
• send or ask for sexual content involving anyone under 18, or anything else that exploits a child;
• sign in as someone else, or use a phone number you do not control;
• collect other people's personal data unlawfully, including through the Decoder. If you paste someone else's messages into nitnoi, you are responsible for having a lawful reason to do so;
• use talking face to face, Together Mode or Table Mode to interpret or record anyone covertly or against their wishes, or to listen to people who are not taking part in the conversation. It is for the person across the table from you, who can see the phone and end the session, and for nobody else in the room;
• use talking face to face with anyone too young to use nitnoi themselves, or with anyone who cannot understand what their side of the screen tells them;
• attack the service or work around its limits: no scraping, no automated access, no reverse engineering, no attempt to reach another account's data;
• resell nitnoi, or run it as a service for other people.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.

Your content

What you write stays yours. To run the service we need permission to store your messages, send them to the other person, and pass them to the providers that translate and transcribe them, and you give us that permission by using nitnoi. We do not sell your conversations and we do not train any model on them. What happens to your data in detail, and the rights you have over it, are set out in our privacy notice.

Privacy and encryption

nitnoi is not end to end encrypted. An app that translates for you has to be able to read what you send. Messages are encrypted while they travel and while they are stored, and our servers and our translation providers can read them. Calls with captions turned on are also not end to end encrypted, and the app says so on screen while they run.

Availability

We work to keep nitnoi running, and we do not promise that it always will. Features can change, and some can go away. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan gives you, we will tell you in the app.

Ending it

You can stop using nitnoi whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account, which is described in the privacy notice. Cancelling a subscription does not delete your account, and deleting your account does not automatically refund a month you have paid for.

Our liability

nitnoi is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude warranties that are not written in these terms, including any promise that a translation, or anything nitnoi says, will be accurate or fit for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit or opportunity, or for anything that follows from a message being misunderstood. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep every right the law of your country gives you.

Changes to these terms

We can change these terms. If we do, we will update the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app when the change matters. Using nitnoi after a change means the new terms apply to you.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Thailand, and the courts of Thailand have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
